Common questions, straight answers.
We believe in transparency. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most often from prospective clients.
What does “pre-litigation” mean?
Pre-litigation refers to the legal work that happens before a case goes to court. This includes demand letters, negotiation, mediation, and strategic counsel, all aimed at resolving your dispute without the time, cost, and uncertainty of a trial.
Most disputes can be resolved at this stage. When they can’t, we prepare your case thoroughly and connect you with experienced trial counsel to take it the rest of the way.
What types of cases does Amicus Lex handle?
We handle five core practice areas: commercial and business disputes, employment disputes, estate disputes, personal injury, and probate administration. Within those areas, we take on a wide range of specific matters, from breach of contract and wrongful termination to will contests and probate filings.
If you’re not sure whether your situation fits, reach out. We’ll give you an honest assessment. And if we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you that too.
How does pricing work?
We use two straightforward pricing structures depending on the work involved.
All out-of-court work is flat-fee. That includes case assessment, demand letters, negotiation, mediation, document drafting, settlement work, and all communication throughout your matter. After we assess your case, we’ll quote a specific flat fee for the scope of work, and that’s what you pay. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices, no meter running when you call with a question.
In-court representation starts at $500+/hour, with the exact rate agreed upon before we begin. If your case requires court appearances, hearings, or trial work, we bill that time at a clear, fair rate so you always know what you’re paying for. You’ll never be blindsided by an invoice.
This structure means you know exactly what your legal representation will cost before we begin, and we’re incentivized to resolve your case efficiently rather than draw it out.
What states do you practice in?
Amicus Lex is licensed to practice in Texas, Iowa, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. We’re headquartered in Austin, Texas, and serve clients across all five states with the same level of strategic counsel and transparent pricing.
What if my case needs to go to trial?
If your dispute cannot be resolved through pre-litigation strategies (demand letters, negotiation, or mediation), we don’t leave you stranded. We prepare your case file thoroughly and connect you with experienced trial counsel who can take it through litigation.
Our pre-litigation work often strengthens the litigation position significantly, so even if a case does go to trial, the groundwork we’ve laid gives you a meaningful advantage.
How quickly will I hear back after reaching out?
We respond to every inquiry within one business day, and in most cases, same-day. When you submit your information through our contact form or call our office, you’ll hear back with an honest initial assessment, not a sales pitch.
What should I prepare before my consultation?
Gather any relevant documents: contracts, correspondence, court filings, medical records, or other paperwork related to your situation. Write down a brief timeline of events and note the key people involved.
Don’t worry if you don’t have everything organized. We’ll walk you through what we need during the consultation and let you know if anything else would be helpful.
Do you offer free consultations?
We offer a complimentary initial case assessment. This isn’t a high-pressure sales call. It’s an honest evaluation of your situation, your options, and whether Amicus Lex is the right fit for your case. If we’re not, we’ll tell you that directly and point you in the right direction.
Don’t let this escalate.
The sooner you act, the more options you have. Tell us about your situation. We’ll respond with an honest assessment same-day.
